A new chapter for a period home

Following a fire in the basement kitchen of this fine Georgian home, which is a listed property, its owner invited Sola Kitchens to design a new one for her.

The Brief
The client envisioned a modern kitchen with a Japandi vibe, inspired by her frequent visits to her sister-in-law in Japan. She wanted the design to include a freestanding steel cabinet with open shelving, space for entertaining around her circular dining table, and thoughtful features for displaying objets collected during her travels, adding interesting conversation points.

The designer's solution incorporates two of Sola Kitchen's signature styles, Hygge and Skog, to create a scheme with clearly defined zones for cooking, food storage, eating, and entertaining. The working kitchen embodies a Japandi aesthetic with black-stained oak-veneered flat fronts and slats of the Hygge cabinetry, showcasing the natural wood grain. The striking Calcutta marble with its rich veining, personally selected by the client, and the distinctively designed stainless-steel handles by Armac Martin elevate the space. At the owner's request, the Blanco sink is integrated into the island so she can enjoy views of the garden, with easy access to the pantry, featuring fluted glass doors, and a Gaggenau fridge behind. The dining area, at the opposite end of the room, is given its own unique identity with a full-height wall panel of Skog panel serving as a statement backdrop for the client's green-painted dining table.

Special Features
All power to your elbow: shelving behind a second glass-fronted wall cabinet is arranged so that there is enough height on the bottom level to accommodate countertop appliances, with power sockets fitted at the back so they can be used in situ.

Finishing touches: the pantry is fitted with a breakfast bar and power socket for the coffee machine.
