BRASS LOFT
Industrial evolution

A kind of warehouse living was what the owners wanted in their terraced Victorian house in north London, where they have exposed the brick walls, laid concrete floors, added a beamed ceiling and Crittall doors to the garden.

The Brief
The clients wanted an ultra-industrial style kitchen with weathered metals, matt paint, and stone finishes. The colour palette was earthy, and they had sourced antique and vintage fittings, including warehouse lights and switchplates, which have been adapted so they can be used with the mains power supply. The floor is poured concrete and faux concrete beams were added to the ceiling, but they were interested in a stone worksurface as a finishing touch for their warehouse-inspired interior.

When I came across Sola Kitchens’ bespoke brass cabinetry, I knew I found the perfect fit. I wanted to put a new twist on an old look. Sola Kitchens helped create the exact patina I wanted, which was ideal!

The designer's solution has a simple but symmetrical layout reminiscent of a workshop or downtown bar, with colour and materials palettes of ultra matt black painted cabinets and antiqued brass that provides a dramatic look. Brass inlays in the integrated handles of the flat-fronted cabinetry pulls the scheme together, and a Dekton stone worksurface integrated with a black Blanco sink completes the look.

Special Features
On your metal: the stainless-steel hooded extraction system above the Rangemaster was preferred over a downdraft one for its industrial appearance and is complimented perfectly by the Dekton stone splashback and upstand to protect the brickwork.
Finishing touches: the matt black sink tap, with its wheel handles, is perfect for this industrial look.
