The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in any house and it was especially so for the couple, together with their architect, planned to have theirs at the heart, literally, of the forever home that was being built for them overlooking one of Cornwall's many beautiful beaches.
The Brief
The clients were inspired by Sola Kitchen's bespoke Scandinavian designs, featuring abundant wood and bright white cabinetry, a style they felt would complement their new contemporary home. They envisioned a simple yet elegant and modern kitchen with a large island for entertaining children, grandchildren, and friends while serving as an eye-catching feature from the garden. The desired aesthetic was pale, neutral, and minimalistic, with subtle touches of wood and white tones to harmonise with the rest of the house. They opted for matte surfaces over glossy ones, with top-of-the-line appliances acting as occasional focal points.
The designer's solution showcases Sola Kitchens' signature Skog cabinetry, with white-stained veneered oak-slatted panels bringing a striking "Wow!" factor to the large statement island. This large island, featuring a gas downdraft Bora hob, offers ample storage beneath the Dover white marble worktop. The same cabinetry style is echoed in the bank of wall-mounted Skog units set back into the wall behind, above the stainless-steel Zenduo sink with a Quooker tap. A refined touch comes from the white-painted tall cabinets and the pantry with internal lighting and pocket doors. The fridge-freezer and trio of ovens are neatly integrated into the tall cabinetry along the wall separating the kitchen from the staircase.
Special Features
Easy-access storage: large pull-out drawers for the pantry within the run of tall cabinets makes certain that nothing will be lost or put beyond reach.
Finishing touches: a short upstand wide enough to be used as a shelf protects the wall behind the sink.
