DUMPLING BAR

It's a New York kinda thing

Project Year2022
Project LocationPutney

Cool materials and the personal touch were the order of the day for the owners of this kitchen in Putney.

A blend of uptown-downtown wine bar styling with the island wrapped in hammered brass.
The Brief

The clients wanted their kitchen to be a fusion of urban edge and refined style, with a very individual materials palette of woods, metals, and stone, to complement their new extension, with its raftered ceiling and wideboard floor, concrete panelled wall and black aluminium-framed window and bi-fold doors.

We got in touch with Sola Kitchens to design the space, which proved to be a creative and enjoyable relationship. We had our ideas but were very open to Sola Kitchen's suggestions. It’s the perfect example of a bespoke kitchen made with unique materials and features!

Mr & Mrs Biddulph

The designer's solution seamlessly blends uptown-downtown wine bar aesthetics, featuring an island wrapped in hammered brass panels and topped with a bullnose-edged Silestone work surface. The flat-fronted wall cabinetry is soft-touch laminated, with crown-cut, limed edges that beautifully highlight the pale ash carcasses. To add further dimension to the design, a wide-shelved wine rack at one end of the cabinetry is left unlaminated, showcasing the natural beauty of the limed ash. This same ash is also displayed on the sides of the cabinets flanking the sink, creating a visually striking and cohesive look.

Special Features

Clever storage: the folding garden table and cushions have their own bespoke storage space, thoughtfully built on the side of the pantry. This custom unit features a single shelf and uses the same limed ash as the wine rack at the opposite end of the cabinetry, creating a cohesive and functional design.

Finishing touches: a brass footrail and a pair of leaping leopard handles continue the brass theme.
